Puppy Gare Guide

Congratulations on welcoming your new Labrador puppy into your family! πŸŽ‰
At Canine Styling Labrador, we want your transition to be joyful, smooth, and worry-free. This guide will help you prepare your home, understand your puppy’s needs, and ensure your new best friend grows up happy and healthy.

Before your puppy arrives, take a few moments to puppy-proof your home:
βœ… Secure electrical cords and small objects they might chew on.
βœ… Block off unsafe areas or stairs with baby gates.
βœ… Prepare a quiet, cozy space where your puppy can rest and feel safe.
βœ… Have food and water bowls, a soft bed, and chew toys ready.

πŸ’‘ Remember: Puppies explore the world with their mouths, so keep shoes and valuables out of reach!

Your puppy comes with a starter food pack of the premium diet we use.
For the first few days, continue the same food to avoid stomach upset.

Typical feeding schedule (for 8–12 week old Labradors):

  • Breakfast: 7:00 AM

  • Lunch: 12:00 PM

  • Dinner: 5:00 PM

Gradually transition to two meals per day as your puppy grows (around 5–6 months).

🚫 Avoid overfeeding β€” Labradors love to eat and can gain weight quickly!

Always provide fresh water and never feed table scraps or human food without vet approval.

Your puppy has already received their first vaccinations and vet health check before leaving us.

Your vet will continue the schedule with:

  • Second vaccination: around 10–12 weeks

  • Third vaccination: around 14–16 weeks

  • Annual boosters thereafter

We also recommend:

  • Worming every 2 weeks until 12 weeks old, then monthly

  • Flea & tick prevention starting at 8 weeks

  • Microchip registration under your name once adoption is complete

πŸ’› Keep your vet records safe β€” you’ll receive your puppy’s vaccination booklet from us at pickup or delivery.

Consistency is key!
Take your puppy outside:

  • First thing in the morning

  • After every meal

  • After naps and playtime

  • Right before bedtime

Always praise your puppy for going in the right place β€” positive reinforcement works wonders.

πŸ’‘ Accidents happen β€” stay patient, never punish.

Puppies need plenty of rest β€” up to 18 hours a day!
Create a calm, comfortable sleeping area where your puppy feels secure.
A soft blanket or toy that smells like their littermates (included in your pack) can ease the first few nights.

Keep a consistent routine for meals, play, and bedtime β€” Labradors thrive on structure and affection.

Labradors are intelligent, friendly, and eager to please β€” perfect for families!
Start socialising early with:

  • Gentle exposure to different people, sounds, and environments

  • Short, fun training sessions (sit, stay, come)

  • Lots of praise and treats

We recommend puppy obedience classes after vaccinations are complete.

Training builds a strong bond and helps shape your puppy into a confident, well-behaved adult.

At 8–12 weeks, short play sessions are enough.
Avoid over-exercising young puppies β€” their bones are still growing.

Gradually increase activity as your puppy matures. Labradors love:

  • Fetch

  • Swimming

  • Walks

  • Brain games

Exercise keeps them happy, healthy, and prevents boredom-related chewing.

Labradors have short, double coats that shed lightly year-round.
Brush your puppy 2–3 times a week to keep their coat shiny and reduce shedding.

πŸ› Bathing: Only when necessary (every 4–6 weeks).
βœ‚οΈ Nails: Trim monthly or as needed.
🦷 Teeth: Brush regularly with dog-safe toothpaste.

Early grooming habits make your Lab comfortable and cooperative for life

  • Keep things calm the first few days β€” avoid large crowds or loud noises.

  • Stick to familiar food, feeding times, and routines.

  • Offer gentle affection, but allow rest and quiet time.

  • Introduce other pets slowly and in neutral spaces.

πŸ’‘ Remember: It takes time for your puppy to adjust β€” patience and love go a long way.
